Who We Are...
At the Connecticut Department of Labor, the Job Development Unit is responsible
for running the Connecticut Career Fairs. This Unit is small in number yet large
in responsibility and follow-through. These state-sponsored Connecticut Career
Fairs have a history of providing the most results-oriented, cost-effective
career fairs available in Connecticut. In 1996, the first ever fair hosted 15
companies and slightly over 100 attendees. Today the Connecticut Career Fairs
host 50 companies at the smaller fairs and as many as 80 companies at the larger
venues. The average fee per booth at our fairs is quite reasonable when compared
to the industry standard. Our fee covers the costs of the fair including media
advertising, printing, mail-outs, booths, and lunch for employers. Each fair is
advertised through radio and newspaper ads, as well as the Internet.
Our Past Success...
The Fall 2006 Career Fairs, which took place in Hartford,Waterbury, and New
Haven areas, boasted more than 4,000 attendees.
Over the past year we have assisted more than 10,000 job seekers and hosted over
450 employers.
In the interest of those we serve, partnerships have been developed with local
Chambers of Commerce, colleges and universities, Workforce Investment Boards and
community-based organizations. These partnerships help to determine the needs of
the people in the local area and how we can meet those needs.

At each fair, attendees have the chance to meet with prospective employers, and
can also take advantage of the following services:
Nationally certified resume writers available for critiquing.
Connecticut's Job Bank, part of the nation’s largest internet employment
service.
Veterans Services Representatives to provide assistance and guidance.
Information on Educational and Job Training Programs.
Information on employment and unemployment services.
Since many attendees are employed or not yet displaced from their jobs, we have
the opportunity to publicize all our services should they need them.
